Being mindful of communities, nature and wildlife.
Principles

Establishing principles to help create a lasting planet.

For a Lasting Planet's guiding principles offer a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how we connect with wildlife, nature, and communities in our documentaries and conservation work.

Instead of imposing our own perspectives and experiences onto our storytelling, let's approach each narrative with genuine curiosity and an open heart. By engaging in heartfelt conversations with local communities, we can truly grasp the essence of the places we portray.

When interacting with local communities, our goal is to create an inclusive environment where every voice is valued and respected. We strive to break down barriers and ensure equal opportunities for all, fostering a sense of belonging and safety.

Furthermore, we understand the power of language in shaping our relationship with nature. By using language that honors the intrinsic value of wildlife and indigenous cultures, we show our deep respect and appreciation for the natural world.

In the English language, we reserve the pronouns of personhood for humans - ”he,” “she,” “they” - and not for animals, plants, and landscapes. Yet in many of America’s indigenous languages, such barriers are dissolved, and so, too, is the sense of distance between human and nonhuman.
